Reflecting on life in Hawaii, I have developed an open mind, appreciation for and pride in the diversity of the people and their cultures, and an unbridled love for the environment….the endless beauty, simplicity, and power of Hawaii. My art reflects life experiences and creativity flows naturally…much like the island itself.
Ceramic art enables me to create freely, yet it is always challenging. Experimenting and fascination with traditional and non-traditional methods of the medium…wheel throwing, sculpture, and hand-building techniques…fuel creativity. I’m intrigued by texture and the way clay reacts to spontaneity. Ceramics has become an extension of the ideas that flow through my mind.
A “series” is a body of work over an extended period of time. In the fresh unknown, the exciting elements of the work fuels a new beginning. I consciously start a new technique in a spontaneous way, pursue its development, and become inspired as the work changes over time. Eventually it becomes very controlled and reaches a natural limit. Then I begin again.
Wall vases are the current series and the possibilities are endless…
